It is the most centrally located village in Alta Badia at the bottom of the Gardenazza and the Piz la Villa Mountains, dominated by the "Ciastel Colz" castle, an ancient castle situated - just like the church - in the old part of the village.
La Villa became famous for the "Gran Risa" slope, where the Ski World Cup has taken place for over 20 years. Again, every year the village is at the centre of international attention.
The fields at the valley bottom which pronounce the imposing nature of the Dolomite Mountains still show traces of ancient settlements "Les Viles".
